Barn Swallows nest in the goat barn every summer. I don't know why I like this picture so much; I guess we watch animals so often, and here the swallows are curiously watching "human TV".

Since life is so dull and quiet, we thought a puppy might liven things up. Oh yes.
We named her Sophie, hoping she will be a smart herding dog. Ha. But she's a very sweet puppy.

Then somehow we acquired a tiny kitten
(don't ever have Spanish Coffees with people whose cat just had kittens).
We named him Kit Carson, hoping he'll be a mighty hunter (of mice and rats). Ha. But he's a very nice cat.

Sophie and Kitkat get along as well as most siblings, that is, they fight like cats and dogs...

Sophie finds chickens absolutely fascinating and compelling. So far there have been several close encounters, and amazingly each time the chicken has been undamaged (although perhaps suffering emotional trauma). Sophie actually has successfully herded loose chickens back into the pasture a few times. What a dog!

This isn't the best picture of Jim, but we don't have too many good pictures of him. This is the 4th of July barbecue on Jim's porch.

This year we had built a new dream greenhouse. One feature is an Earth Bag north wall, for thermal mass. It's a lot of work! We held a work party, a keg does a pretty good job of attracting workers. It was hot!

Lindsey shoveled dirt (that's the builder, Jason, pounding on bags in the background). She was also the official photographer.

Jay mixed the dirt with sand and water and filled bags (with some help). He was in charge of beer.

Lisa shaped and stacked bags and pounded them into shape. She was also the cook.
